The way we look at it, the best monitors are the ones that manage to strike a golden price-performance balance. The 27-inch LG 27UD88-W Ultra HD (UHD) LG achieves the target perfectly–and flies past it.

This is an extremely color-precise display that will be a huge hit for anyone who has to do some artistic or photographic work on a budget. This lacks certain modern amenities, such as a high refresh rate for gamers and HDR all around for movies, but what we get in return is a stunning 4 K Ultra HD display that anyone can afford.

The argument for upgrading to a 4 K (3,840x 2,160) screen is getting stronger and stronger as time goes by. Not only do video services such as Netflix and YouTube deliver today a variety of 4 K content, but new graphics cards are emerging to play all the best PC games with high frame rates and clarity at this resolution.

LG 27UD88-W at Amazon for US$ 619.99 So, whether you're a player who's ready to test the water with 4 K, or if you're a content creator looking to edit videos at native resolution on a color-accurate display, you'll find lots to love about the LG 27UD88-W.

Price and availability Usually, if you're looking to get a FreeSync 4 K panel and a high sRGB color gamut coverage, you'd look at a moderately expensive monitor. That is not necessarily the case here though.

The LG 27UD88-W is, quite frankly, a bargain at $649 (about £ 490, AU$900) When we first saw this monitor's size, we had to do a double take to ensure that we noted the right model number. While many monitors in this price range, such as the Acer XB281HK have higher refresh rates and lower response times, a display with this degree of color accuracy is hard to find for a better price. And, given that it is not primarily a monitor for gaming, that is a sacrifice worth making.

You can't do much better at a lower price if you're a graphic designer or creative professional, and you're looking for an affordable monitor that won't hold you back.
